Self-deception in the meritocracy debate

Whenever the discussion turns to redistribution in any of its forms, whether ethnic/class-based affirmative action or progressive taxation, it never ends. We can debate endlessly on the principles of distributive justice, countering appeals to Rawls with Nozick, and we might come to some vague consensus on the multicausal nature of merit and the marginal products of fate and works, and some principled measure of distributive justice.

Speak Out on ICT winning presentations

The presentations for the ICT competition have been made available online. If you’re interested, you can see the very informative presentations by Kelvin and Ming Yeow - Kelvin’s is an excellent example in creative presentation, while Ming Yeow’s is truly professional. My amateur work is also there, but who wants to see that?

The last CAP

Tonight I attended the dinner at the annual CAP seminar. My initial reason to go was to see someone I hadn’t seen for a long time, but the person wasn’t there. Not all was lost: It was a reminder of everything that went wrong with my misspent youth, all the wasted opportunities and failures. I really wanted to be part of that happy family, but somehow it just didn’t happen. It reminded me why I have to work harder at making sure that never happens again.
